| Issue 180: Siegel, Stefan; Dittrich, Ralf; Vollmann, Jochen: Ethik der Reproduktionsmedizin aus der Sicht betroffener Familien. Ergebnisse einer qualitativen Interviewstudie.August 2008 | | Today In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a widespread and important technique of reproductive medicine. Since the technique was first applied successfully 30 years ago, it was considered ethically controversial.
We included the participants from the first cases of in vitro fertilisation in Germany at the Gynaecological Clinic of the University Hospital Erlangen. Our data was analysed with methods of Grounded Theory.
This is the first study conducted of affected families in order to learn about their ethical opinions and personal attitudes towards this medical technology. The findings are discussed in relation to the ethical debatte.
