Rita Kielstein calls for counseling and advice by physicians prior to executing Advance Di-rectives and for the use of narrative material in preparing lay people to make medical deci-sions in advance. Supreme Court Justice Kutzer analyses the legal framework and suggests new legislation in order to support individual decision making and to reduce legal uncertainty. Arnd T. May calls for improved education and continuing education of physicians and per-sonal representatives. Included are ‘Standards for Counseling on Advance Directives’ and models of narrative material for preparation and an Advance Directive form with an inte-grated Durable Power of Attorney.
