In ETHICAL ISSUES IN SELECTIVE ABORTION: THE SOUTHKOREAN DISCUSSION Phillan Joung analyzes gender-based Asian traditions and their influence on public and family culture in regard to selective abortion. Fatal interactions between modern diagnostic methods, national population policy and a traditional value system cause complex and multifactoral ethical and cultural problems, one of them is the social and familial assessment of women's worth based on their ability to produce a son for the continuation of patrileneage.
