Issue 138: Zühlsdorf, Michael T. and Kuhlmann, Jochen: Klinische und ethische Aspekte der Pharmakogenetik. August 2002

Diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy are changing rapidly and fundamentally as a result of research and results in molecular genetics. In particular, pharmacogenetics offer better, more individualized efficacious prescription with less side-effects. Zuehlsdorf and Kuhlmann review progress and results in pharmacogenetic research, in proteonomic, and in drug design and development. They discuss ethical and clinical implications of introducing proteonomics and individualized prescriptions into medical practice.
An Appendix reprints as a sample for ethical review of pharmacogenetic research recently published Guiding Principles for Clinical Research in Human Genetics of the Institutional Review Board of the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna and the Academic Hospital of Vienna [Wien. Klin. Wochenschr 2001;112:876-879]
