Issue 135: Köchy, Kristian: Philosophische Grundlagenreflexion in der Bioethik. March 2002

In his programmatic study Kristian Köchy emphasizes the importance of philosophical basic research in bioethics. The relation between bioethics and the Life Sciences is only meaningful if ethical statements about scientific acts and facts are formulated in respect to the complex horizon or context of scientific research programs. Therefore bioethics have to be combined with philosophical investigations carried out by further disciplines like such as philosophy of language, science or nature. This is shown in two casestudies about 1) the debate on the beginning of human life and 2) the debate on stemcell-research.
