Issue 133: Knoepffler, Nikolaus: Menschenwürde als Konsensprinzip für bioethische Konfliktfälle in einer pluralistischen Gesellschaft. March 2002

The following paper aims at showing that the principle of human dignity is a useful principle for evaluating problems in applied ethics. In pluralistic societies, the principle of human dignity can serve as a common bond. It, therefore, allows us to evaluate different kinds of problems, problems of medical ethics as well as bioethical problems in a broader sense. Knoepffler uses the ethical problem of preimplantation genetic diagnosis and the ethical problem of genetically modified crop (especially “Golden Rice”) to exemplify the thesis.
