The authors analyze the opportunities of virtual and interactive professional communication in the 1997 established mailinglist Betreuungsrecht@ruhr-uni-bochum.de. As this is the first major evaluation of an interactive discussion forum in Germany, it might serve as a model for further research in this area. The results of this survey are an important contribution to the development and framing of a new code of ethics and of professional attitudes among health proxy professionals (Berufsbetreuer according to the new German care Law, Betreuungsrecht) and surrogate decision makers.
