| Issue 128: Zenz, Michael; Illhardt, Franz Josef: Ethik in der Schmerztherapie. November 2000 | | | Zenz and Illhardt discuss clinical and ethical issues of pain and suffering, of palliative care, and palliative care research. They analyse the theological and philosophical debate on 'interpreting' pain and suffering as real-life phenomena and inform about the achievements of modern palliative care. They critcize a widespread failure to provide for well-established professional standards in palliative care and suggest that request for euthanasia, even the entire euthanasia debate, might not be caused in part by the absence of compassion and good palliativ care.
